Review

"If you loved Sheryl Sandberg's incredible TEDTalk on why we have too few women leaders, or simply believe as I do that we need equality in the boardroom, then this book is for you. As Facebook's COO, Sheryl Sandberg has the first-hand experience of why having more women in leadership roles is good for business as well as society. Lean In is essential reading for anyone interested in righting the injustice of this inequality" Sir Richard Branson, Chairman, the Virgin Group "Sheryl provides practical suggestions for managing and overcoming the challenges that arise on the "jungle gym" of career advancement. I nodded my head in agreement and laughed out loud as I read these pages. Lean In is a superb, witty, candid, and meaningful read for women (and men) of all generations" Condoleezza Rice, Former U.S. Secretary of State "Sheryl Sandberg brilliantly explains how she believes women must put themselves forward if the gender gap is ever to be closed - I agree, but I would add women should not only lean in, but also stand up and cheer." Martha Lane Fox "Eleanor Roosevelt once said, 'No one can make you feel inferior without your permission.' With stories from her own life and data carefully researched, Sheryl Sandberg reminds women that they have to believe in themselves and reach for opportunities. More women than men may need that advice, but I'd bet that both genders would profit from this very well-done book" Marjorie Scardino, Former CEO, Pearson PLC "For the past five years, I've sat at a desk next to Sheryl and I've learned something from her almost every day. She has a remarkable intelligence that can cut through complex processes and find solutions to the hardest problems. Lean In combines Sheryl's ability to synthesize information with her understanding of how to get the best out of people. The book is smart and honest and funny. Her words will help all readers-especially men-to become better and more effective leaders" Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, Facebook

One Indian Girl | marriage | life

Hi, I'm Radhika Mehta and I'm getting married this week. I work at Goldman Sachs, an investment bank. Thank you for reading my story. However, let me warn you.
You may not like me too much. One, I make a lot of money. Two, I have an opinion on everything. Three, I have had a boyfriend before. OK, maybe two.
Now if all this was the case with a guy, one might be cool with it. But since I am a girl these three things I mentioned don’t really make me too likable, do they? Read more

Description for One Indian Girl

Review

I liked this book because it makes an honest attempt to look at things from women's perspective. It is also different in that it describes an atypical Indian girl, and I can almost understand where the characters come from. It does not end in an unexpected way, but yet it ends in a good way. I really enjoyed reading this book. I appreciate that it talks about self-respect despite our cultural and ethnic backgrounds. --By A Customer on October 15, 2016

While Chetan Bhagat is so known for clear and simple articulation, with hilarious analogies, he has taken this up a notch from his standard. The inner feelings of a woman - uncoated, plain and not blanched by attribution errors, as the inner 'mini-me' of the main character is Extremely accurate. --By Padma Venkatrangan on October 5, 2016

a) When you want something, the entire universe conspires to help you achieve it. (Filmy but yes, it does show that doors will keep on opening once you start working towards the goal and leave the negativity behind).
b) Nothing in the world comes for free, there are no free lunches.
c) God always comes in some form to help those who help themselves.
d) Courage is the only skill that will take you through the difficult times.
f) Listen to your heart, it's always right.
g) God is within us and continuously speaks with us, we just need to question him.
h) The treasure is always around us, but life still takes us to long journey just to teach us skills required to become capable of handling the treasure.

Life is What You Make it, It is based on a love story

love story, struggle, romance, women, best girl, girl

Life Is What You Make It is based on a love story that has been set in India in the 90s.

The novel revolves around a woman in her 20s, Ankita, who has a past haunting her like a nightmare. As she grows up from adolescence to a woman in her mid-20s, she wades through different situations, engages in affairs with a couple of guys and is set-back by her parents’ refusal to accept her situation. As a result of non-stop upheavals in her life, Ankita develops bipolar disorder at one point in time.

The story revolves around Ankita’s struggles, determination, her decisions and her faith in self. The book beautifully describes how she gets acquainted with her bipolar disorder, how she decides to help her own self and how she battles these situations all by herself. The title of the book in a way describes the central theme of the book but the manner in which Preeti drove home the point through an interesting story, is delightful. READ MORE

Review

I liked the starting and the way author created the suspense. I kept guessing the reason and was proved wrong at the end. Its very well written and is also a lesson for people who try to commit suicide. It tells you how important is your life and it's very easy to enjoy it. All depend on you how you move forward. There will be situations in your life when you are highly frustrated but its all part of life. In the book, she got the doctor but in real life you get someone and you don't even realize to thank her for saving your life. The author described the kind of a pain in stomach, it's very much similar to a guilt feel or a kind of frustration which we feel when things are not in our favor or when some betray us or even you betray someone for a selfless reason. I liked the way author portrays the feeling of a person to damage her body to get rid of the mental pain. Its a must read. Hats off to Preeti Shenoy --Ravi Soni Aug 29, 2011

I think I am in loved wide its story. It's quite complicated yet interesting, it just tells that love must be confessed. delivery of the book was on time and buying this book was a good decision. I think I had added a pearl to my library. --ANKITA OJHA 31 Jul 2014

The ancient science of Yoga | Autobiography of a Yogi

yoga,science,yog,meditation,women,men,life

Autobiography of a Yogi is at once a beautifully written account of an exceptional life and a profound introduction to the ancient science of Yoga and its time-honored tradition of meditation. This acclaimed autobiography presents a fascinating portrait of one of the great spiritual figures of our time. With engaging candor, eloquence, and wit, Paramahansa Yogananda tells the inspiring chronicle of his life: the experiences of his remarkable childhood, an encounter with many saints and sages during his youthful search throughout India for an illumined teacher, ten years of training in the hermitage of a revered yoga master, and the thirty years that he lived and taught in America. Also recorded here are his meetings with Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Luther Burbank, the Catholic stigmatist Therese Neumann, and other celebrated spiritual personalities of East and West.

The author clearly explains the subtle but definite laws behind both the ordinary events of everyday life and the extraordinary events commonly termed miracles. His absorbing life story becomes the background for a penetrating and unforgettable look at the ultimate mysteries of human existence. Selected as "One of the 100 Best Spiritual Books of the Twentieth Century," Autobiography of a Yogi has been translated into more than 35 languages, and is regarded worldwide as a classic of religious literature. Several million copies have been sold, and it continues to appear on best-seller lists after more than sixty consecutive years in print. Profoundly inspiring, it is at the same time vastly entertaining, warmly humorous and filled with extraordinary personages. read more

A beautifully authored book and a timeless classic. More of an enthralling adventure rather than some faux-religious book. Doesn't enforce any particular form of worship and very secular in approach. --Dr. Aditya Dec 16, 2012

1. I miss you

Well, in Portuguese we say "tenho saudades tuas". It's way

stronger

than "sinto a tua falta" = "I miss you". Saudade doesn't have a

translation in other languages. I love it because it means so much,

so much feeling.

Here at Curacao we say in Papiamentu: mita sinti faltabo- I feel

missing you.
